Tweetdeck - is it @ da top of ur tweetlications?
I've been using tweetdeck for over a year now, both desktop and Android applications and I've been using the chrome application on most shared PCs.
Although i really love the Desktop and Chrome versions, the Android version leaves a lot to be desired especially after the Desktop version got an update and Tweetdeck was bought by Twitter.
Few of the things I dislike about the Android version?
Well, for one, on one of the early releases of Tweetdeck Android, whenever I used to update my Foursquare location, the same used to be reflected on Twitter and Facebook. Of course, with the launch of Facebook Places, this was obviously not possible but I wuz still content but now, my Twitter feed no longer gets updated with my Foursquare check-ins even though my Twitter account is linked to Foursquare. However, the desktop account still updates my Twitter feed.
Second, I would really like to c options 4 liking comments on Facebook statuses and not just the status itself. Also, deleting any comment would be an added bonus.
Next, I would like to point my attention to the fact that I cannot access Facebook pages or view my Facebook albums let alone upload any photos to albums. Yeah sure, I can post em to Twitpic or yfrog.
Finally, What about the ability to mention people in Facebook statuses/comments and not only in Twitter updates?
Yeah, I do continue to use Tweetdeck Android for the sheer reason that well the other applications suck more.
But hey, I'm still hopeful coz I believe that the new acquisition by Twitter may just bring along these updates.

RIM no longer a competitor in the smartphone industry?
Okay its been about 4 months and here I am posting the latest development with Research in Motion (RIM). Last week, an employee wrote an open letter to RIM bosses explaining what is going wrong with the company. Today, I am here to discuss what the letter points to and what can we expect from RIM now.
Ever since the letter has been released people are going crazy thinking about the implications it might have and some of the drastic changes already taking place within the RIM board (apparently, the board of directors are being changed).
Why is this happening one might ask. Well, you can say that several factors are contributing to the downfall of RIM. One, with the launch of iOS5 and the BB messenger killer (or so some people say) iMessage. What is iMessage? Well, its pretty much the same thing as BB messenger with the exception that you do not need to subscribe to a separate data plan to use it. Which is a plus for both users as well as countries where BB Messenger is on the verge of being banned due to the non-cooperation of RIM bosses to allow countries to monitor messages over their secure network.
Second, with the physical keyboard going out of style, thanks to Android, iOS and WP7 devices, RIM is in a tough spot over what can be done to keep the physical keyboard a reality. If some of you remember, what the Storm2 brought in with its touch interface, you might be inclined to agree with me that RIM needs serious help in that department.
Next, I'd like to talk about a feature RIM used to take pride in "Push mail". Well, rude awakening RIM, seems every smartphone today has this nifty little feature to ensure that our e-mails turn up even when we do not want them to.
So is RIM in trouble or not? I've put across my views on the matter. Now, its up to the users to decide.
Cheers ;)

What's Up with Whatsapp?

Hey Guys,
It's been a while since my last post so I here I am bringing you another in the latest for mobile based communication. Of late, a certain app has caught my attention: "Whatsapp".
What I like most about this app is that besides being a cross-platform app (yes, the same app runs on different mobile platforms), it provides us features similar to BB messenger. Yes, I know, most of the BB users out there will probably say, how can you compare an application that is available for multiple mobile platforms to the jewel of RIM? (That's Research in Motion, the company behind the Blackberry operating system for those of you who are unaware).
Well, I say point out how can BB Messenger compare to Whatsapp in this new market for smartphones where innovation is the cornerstone of every successful application developer. So what does Whatsapp have to offer? Well plenty if you follow the chart below:
- Instant Messaging
- Always Online
- Sharing of Pictures, Sounds, and other media (Under 2 MB)
- Use of application over WiFi or mobile data (GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSPA)
- Availability for various mobile phones (Symbian, iPhone, Android, Blackberry and if the rumors are true, the guys @ Whatsapp will be adding support for WinMo as well)
So what's the catch? one might ask. No catch really, the application is free for the first year on iPhone, Symbian, Blackberry and Android devices, after which a yearly fee of USD $1.99 is applicable. As of now, the app is available to iPhone users at a cost of USD $0.99 for life. However, according to the guys at Whatsapp Inc. this will be changed soon to USD $1.99 annually as well.
"But BB Messenger comes free with the device."
Well that's true. However, if you add in the monthly cost of a BB Plan as compared to a monthly data plan for any other smartphone; Well you can do the math. Also, most countries have free WiFi hotspots at major fast-food joints and malls.
Well that's all I have to say. Whether you use the app or not is your decision but I give a major Thumbs Up to the guys @ Whatsapp Inc.
Comments RIM?
Well guys, until next time. This is me signing out.
- Cheers
